LIGHTING DESIGNERS

LIGHTING DESIGNERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR DESIGNING ALL LIGHTING AND LIGHTING EFFECTS FOR EACH PRODUCTION. THE LIGHTING DESIGNER ALSO COORDINATES ALL ELECTRICAL NEEDS BACKSTAGE.

THIS POSITION IS HIRED THROUGH TIP AND IS ASSIGNED TO EACH SHOW.

PLEASE READ REHEARSAL/PERFORMANCE REPORTS 
IMMEDIATELY AND REPLY ALL WITH ANSWERS PROMPTLY

 

Once you have been assigned to the show

  • Read the script (if you haven’t already) and discuss lighting and special effects needs with the director and TD.

  • Attend Production meetings as needed.

  • Accept SharePoint access from TIP staff.  SharePoint is the only file share product that can be used due to county IT restrictions.

Auditions/Call Backs

  • No duties, lighting designer will not attend auditions or callbacks.

Pre-Rehearsal

  • Begin working on basic show plot.

  • Coordinate with TD on equipment needs and wish list.

Rehearsal Process

  • Read rehearsal reports and follow up with questions and requests.

  • Continue to work on show light plot.

  • Comply with due dates as assigned by TIP and/or TIP Technical Director

  • Coordinate stage time with the TIP Technical Director to complete the plot and most of the cuing.

  • Hang the plot and cue the show prior to Sunday tech.

  • Manage lighting crew et. Al.

Tech Week

  • Attend all tech and dress rehearsals following the provided schedule. 

  • Work with directing team, TIP staff, and vendors to ensure all elements of production are in place and respectfully communicate concerns and changes in production meetings following tech rehearsals.

  • Provide SM with cues before Monday tech.  Changes and updates to cues can be communicated daily through Thursday of tech.

  • SM should call the show starting Tuesday.

Performances

  • Attend opening night.

  • OUTDOOR: Attend closing night and manage lighting change over after

  • Address notes in performance reports

Strike

  • Communicate your strike needs with SM and TD

Post Show

  • OUTDOOR: Changeover for next show

  • INDOOR: reset grid to house hang within 48 hours of closing
