Director

AS THE DIRECTOR, YOU WILL COORDINATE THE EFFORTS OF THE ENTIRE PRODUCTION TEAM BY DEFINING THE SHAPE OF THE PRODUCTION, BUT ALLOWING INDIVIDUAL TEAM MEMBERS TO FOCUS ON THEIR AREA OF EXPERTISE.

THE DIRECTOR’S VISION SHOULD BE THE PRIMARY POINT OF DEPARTURE FOR DECISION-MAKING, PLANNING AND EXECUTION. 

THE DIRECTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR 

  • THE STYLE, MOOD, CHARACTERIZATION AND STAGE MOVEMENT IN REGARD TO THE OVERALL DEVELOPMENT OF THE SHOW.

  • THE FINAL ARTISTIC INTERPRETATION OF THE PRODUCTION.

Once you have signed on to the show

  • Review all Directing Team members Expectation documents so that as Director you are aware of everyone else’s roles and responsibilities.

  • Review Show Specific Due Dates and support SM to ensure the team stays on schedule throughout the production.  

  • Recruit and select the Directing Team to fill positions in the list provided by TIP.  Any additional positions on the team based on the show’s needs must be approved through TIP before offering a position.

  • Read the script and work with TIP staff for any special needs/wants for the production as soon as they arise in the creative process.  

  • Select callback sides and send information to TIP staff when requested

  • Accept SharePoint access from TIP staff.  SharePoint is the only file share product that can be used due to county IT restrictions.

  • Complete Volunteer with Stipend paperwork in a timely manner

Auditions/Call Backs

  • Attend audition, call back and casting sessions.

  • Ensure your callback   schedule utilizes everyone’s time wisely.  Work with SM, Music Director, and Choreographer to accomplish everything you need to see within the time allowed – keeping any ‘sit and wait’ time for those auditioning to a minimum.

    • If you are able to cast the show from auditions, callbacks are not necessary.  Contact the TIP staff to discuss as soon as your team determines this.

  • Make the honest effort to cast the show from those at auditions


Pre-Rehearsal

  •  Work with SM to schedule production meetings as needed. 

  • Provide input on Production meetings and other team meetings as needed.

  • Work with the directing team to set the rehearsal schedule so SM can post on the cast website early.


Rehearsals

  • Work with staff to coordinate the efforts of all team members, cast, crew & musicians for the realization of production.

  • Support all other directing team members in following and complying with TIP procedures.



Tech Week

  • Attend all tech and dress rehearsals following the provided schedule (addressing show specific needs with TIP staff at least 1 week prior to tech)

  • Work with directing team, TIP staff, and vendors to ensure all elements of production are in place and respectfully communicate concerns and changes in production meetings following tech rehearsals.


Performances

  • Attend Opening Night.


Strike

  • No duties.


Post Show

  • No duties.
