SOUND DESIGNER

THE SOUND DESIGNER DESIGNS THE SOUND AND SPECIAL AUDIO EFFECTS FOR EACH PRODUCTION.

THIS POSITION IS HIRED THROUGH TIP AND IS ASSIGNED TO EACH SHOW.

IMMEDIATELY AND REPLY ALL WITH ANSWERS PROMPTLY


Once you have been assigned to the show

  • Read the script (if you haven’t already) and discuss lighting and special effects needs with the director. 

  • Attend Production meetings as needed.

  • Accept SharePoint access from TIP staff.  SharePoint is the only file share product that can be used due to county IT restrictions.

Auditions/Call Backs

  • No duties

Pre-Rehearsal

  • Discuss with Director and staff the sound needs of the production, including: mics, special sound effects, special electric needs, etc…

  • Coordinate with TD on equipment needs and wish list.

Rehearsal

  • Prewrite as much of the sound design as possible

  • Collect cast information, mic needs, etc. from stage management.

  • Collect sound effects and send them to the director for approval prior to tech

Tech Week

  • Attend all tech and dress rehearsals following the provided schedule. 

  • Work with directing team, TIP staff, and vendors to ensure all elements of production are in place and respectfully communicate concerns and changes in production meetings following tech rehearsals.

  • Communicate additional sound needs with SM or TIP Technical Director as needed.

  • Set up the orchestra/band cable needs.

  • Mic all performers and maintain mic maintenance.  Communicate damage to TIP Technical Director

  • INDOOR: ensure the board op is prepared to adjust sound needs for live performances

  • INDOOR: Record Tim’s preshow speech Wednesday before or after the Producer run.

Performances

  • Ensure the sound board is run as agreed upon with Harvest Productions

  • Play agreed upon preshow and intermission music.

  • OUTDOOR: Coordinate pre-show sound needs with the various groups

Strike

  • Communicate your strike needs with SM.

Post Show

  • OUTDOOR: Prep for next show (or end of season)

  • INDOOR: Clean and store mics
